For over 55 years, Tower of Power has defined the sound of Oakland soul with their signature blend of funk and R&B. Formed in 1968 by Emilio Castillo and Stephen "Doc" Kupka, the band broke through with East Bay Grease, followed by Bump City (1972), which produced hits like "You're Still a Young Man" and "Down to the Nightclub." The '70s brought classics like "So Very Hard to Go" and "What Is Hip?" Their 2021 release 50 Years of Funk & Soul: Live at the Fox Theater marked a milestone for the band still revered for their powerful live shows. In addition to their own hits, Tower of Power has backed legends like Otis Redding, Elton John, Santana, and Aerosmith. With unmatched horns and high-energy grooves, they continue to inspire fans worldwide.
