4x-GRAMMY® nominee Joshua Redman returns with Words Fall Short, his latest release on Blue Note Records (June 2025). Known for his lyrical voice on the tenor sax, Redman's new project explores "the beauty of human imperfection" through songs shaped by literature, memory, and collaboration. "This album is the antithesis of conflict," says Redman. "It's about connection, empathy, and emotional truth, even in our most flawed expressions." The album features rising talents like Skylar Tang, a trumpet phenom Redman calls "mature beyond her years," and Gabrielle Cavassa, whose vocals turn the haunting final track, "Era's End," into a moment of fragile beauty. From introspective melodies to bold, groove-driven pieces like "Icarus," Words Fall Short is Redman's most personal work to date. With references to Cormac McCarthy, W.G. Sebald, and Vonnegut, it's a deeply human statement from one of jazz's most thoughtful voices.
