Thirty years on..its the Hot Club of Cowtown! 2024 marks three decades since guitarist Whit Smith and violinist Elana James met through a classified ad in the music section of New York Citys legendary alternative newspaper, the Village Voice. From the first notes of their charmed meeting-which James had delayed because of fears of venturing all the way across the city from the Upper West Side to meet an unknown guitar player-their musical chemistry was instant. A few years later, in 1997, Smith set aside the big band, pared down to a duo with James, the pair found a bass player, and the Hot Club of Cowtown was born.
