Recorded at the Bomb Shelter with producer Andrija Tokic (Hurray for the Riff Raff, Alabama Shakes, the Deslondes) with a small backing band, Sunny captured a raw energy in these new songs for the album. Most are call-and-responses with a small choir that includes Allison Russell, Jim James, Dave Rawlings, and Chris Pierce (her partner in the duo War & Pierce). Sunny War is an artist that exists on the fringes of Americana, more inspired by punk bands like X and Minutemen than traditional perspectives.
